History

The Conway County Fire Department located in Arkansas was founded in 1969 when the City of Morrilton donated a 1941 pumper to a group of volunteers who wanted to provide fire protection in the county. In 1971, this group pushed for funding to build a fire station, and in 1974 the station opened. Then-Governor Winthrop Rockefeller, Conway County native, donated 3 brand new fire trucks to house in the newly constructed station: a pumper truck, quick attack truck, and rescue truck that joined a rescue boat. Over time, additional stations were added, and ultimately the county fire department has grown into 12 districts today with 200+ volunteers operating 19 stations.
